Sampdoria have dismissed head coach Bernardo Corradi following a disappointing start to their Serie B campaign, with Marco Giampaolo emerging as the leading candidate to take over. The decision comes amid growing pressure on the club after a series of poor results left them struggling near the bottom of the standings. The management is now looking for an experienced coach who can help turn the season around and restore confidence among players and supporters.

The final blow for Corradi came after Sampdoria suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Arezzo. The result extended their losing run to five defeats in their opening seven league matches, leaving the Blucerchiati with just four points. They currently sit at the bottom of the Serie B table alongside Catanzaro, highlighting the scale of their early-season struggles. Frustrated supporters made their feelings clear at the final whistle, expressing their disappointment with the team's performances.

Sampdoria subsequently confirmed Corradi’s departure in an official club statement, thanking him for his commitment and work during his time in charge. The club also acknowledged the contributions of assistant coach Massimo Mutarelli and technical collaborator Stefano Fiore, who are leaving their respective roles alongside the former head coach. Sampdoria indicated that details regarding the appointment of a new manager and coaching staff would be announced soon as preparations for the next stage of the campaign continue.

Giampaolo has quickly become the leading contender to succeed Corradi, with a potential return marking his third spell at the Italian club. He previously managed Sampdoria in Serie A between 2016 and 2019 before returning for a second stint from January to October 2022. His familiarity with the club and previous experience in Italian football could make him an appealing option as Sampdoria attempt to improve their results and climb away from the relegation zone.

Giampaolo most recently coached Cremonese, having taken over from Davide Nicola, who has since moved to Venezia. A return to Sampdoria would offer him another opportunity to rebuild the team and address the problems that have undermined their opening fixtures. For the club, the immediate priority is to find stability, improve performances, and regain momentum before the gap to their competitors becomes more difficult to close. The upcoming managerial appointment could therefore prove crucial to Sampdoria’s hopes of salvaging their season.
