Ronaldo’s 30-Day Ban Reduced to Just 11 More Days After 19-Day Provisional Suspension

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has officially published its disciplinary ruling, confirming that Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for 30 days and fined €255 for leaving Portugal’s national team training camp without authorization, in violation of the federation’s disciplinary regulations.
The ruling explicitly states that the 19 days Ronaldo had already served under a provisional suspension will be credited toward the 30-day ban. This means he has only 11 days of suspension remaining. If no further sanctions are imposed, his suspension will end later this month, potentially allowing him to join Portugal’s next national team camp.
Portuguese Football Federation’s Ruling:
“The Disciplinary Committee of the Portuguese Football Federation has decided, in this case, to uphold the charges in full and, accordingly, to impose on Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro a suspension of 30 (thirty) days for a deliberate disciplinary offense punishable under Article 160(1) of the FPF Disciplinary Regulations, together with a fine of 2.5 assessment units, equivalent to €255 (two hundred and fifty-five euros).”
In addition, Ronaldo presented four grounds for mitigating his punishment: having no disciplinary record during the current season and the preceding three seasons, making significant contributions to football, receiving major sporting honors, and making a decisive contribution to establishing the facts of the case.
Ultimately, the Disciplinary Committee accepted two grounds for reducing the punishment by half. It recognized Ronaldo’s significant contributions to football and his individual accolades, including five Ballon d’Or awards, as mitigating factors when determining the severity of the sanction. However, the committee rejected Ronaldo’s claim that he had made a decisive contribution to establishing the facts of the case.In last month’s match between Portugal and Norway, Ronaldo remained an unused substitute and returned directly to the dressing room without joining his teammates in acknowledging the fans after the final whistle.
Ahead of Portugal’s match against Denmark, Ronaldo was reportedly unhappy with comments made by head coach Jorge Jesus during a press conference. He skipped training and left the camp, subsequently departing Portugal’s training camp by private jet.
Ronaldo later issued a statement explaining that his departure was prompted by head coach Jorge Jesus allegedly breaking a promise. He acknowledged that he would accept the punishment for his actions while also expressing his willingness to represent Portugal again.
