PSG Fear Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Could Have Suffered Cruciate Ligament Tear

According to L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 at home in Matchday 3 of the UEFA Champions League league phase. However, PSG attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was forced off with an injury during the match. Initial examinations have raised serious concerns, and the Georgian international will undergo an MRI scan on Wednesday to determine whether he has suffered a torn cruciate ligament.

L’Équipe reported that shortly before the hour mark, Kvaratskhelia went down following a heavy collision with Barcelona youngster Xavi Espart. The Georgian immediately grabbed his knee in visible pain, and the scene looked particularly worrying. He was unable to put any weight on his foot and eventually had to leave the pitch with the assistance of two medical staff members.

Late on Tuesday night, PSG officials said they would have to wait for the results of Wednesday’s MRI scan, adding that it was “difficult to make any predictions” at this stage.

However, there is growing concern within the player’s camp, as the initial examination results were far from reassuring. Several people close to Kvaratskhelia feared between Tuesday and Wednesday night that he may have suffered a cruciate ligament tear.

Wednesday’s scan will confirm or rule out that possibility, but the atmosphere among those close to the Georgian forward was already deeply sombre on Tuesday night.
